PM Sharif Launches Nationwide Anti-Polio Campaign, Pledges to Eradicate Virus for Good

ISLAMABAD (AIA) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated a nationwide anti-polio campaign on Sunday by administering polio drops to children under five, reaffirming the government’s resolve to eliminate the virus from Pakistan.
Addressing concerns over the rising number of polio cases, which have reached approximately 60 this year, the prime minister assured the nation that collective efforts from federal and provincial governments would overcome the challenge.
The prime minister expressed gratitude to international partners such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the government of Saudi Arabia for their continued support in Pakistan’s fight against polio. He extended special thanks to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman for his contributions to the campaign in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
“I especially thank the government of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman for their valuable contributions towards eradicating polio in Pakistan and Afghanistan. I also deeply appreciate the efforts of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and WHO,” said PM Shehbaz. “We will not rest until the polio is eradicated for good.”
The campaign, spearheaded by Dr Ayesha Raza Farooq, PM’s focal person for the anti-polio drive, has mobilised over 400,000 polio workers across 143 districts to ensure no child is left unvaccinated. The prime minister called on parents to actively participate in the drive and protect their children from this debilitating disease.
He also commended the dedication of polio workers, recognising their bravery in challenging conditions. Additionally, he appreciated the efforts of security forces and law enforcement agencies in providing protection to polio teams, enabling them to carry out their mission safely.
Dr Ayesha Raza Farooq thanked the prime minister for his unwavering support, emphasising that the campaign’s comprehensive approach would ensure no child is left behind.
