
Punjab Police Cracks Down on Kite Flying: Over 1,900 Arrested
— March 2, 2025LAHORE (AIA) On the directives of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar, Punjab Police continues to enforce the Anti-Kite Flying Act strictly, in line with the Kite Flying Prohibition Amendment Bill.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, more than 1,900 people have been arrested, and 1,866 cases registered across the province, including Lahore, for violating the law this year. Police recovered 418,284 kites and 13,929 spinning wheels, while challans were submitted in 1,505 cases.
In Lahore alone, 482 suspects were arrested, 488 cases were registered, and 19,263 kites along with 714 string spinning wheels were confiscated. Last year, 12,525 arrests were made, and 11,866 cases were registered across Punjab, including the provincial capital.
IG Punjab directed all regional, city, and district police officers to intensify crackdowns against kite flyers, sellers, and manufacturers. He emphasised a zero-tolerance policy towards these life-threatening activities and ordered legal action against those involved in the online trade of metal strings and kites.
“Deadly activities will not be tolerated. Parents must keep their children away from this dangerous game, and citizens should fulfil their responsibility by reporting kite flying incidents to 15,” the IG Punjab added.
