Born on December 27, 1797, in Agra, Ghalib is celebrated for his deeply philosophical poetry, marked by themes of love, sorrow, and wit. His mastery of the ghazal form cemented his place as one of Urdu’s greatest literary figures.
Ghalib spent most of his life in Delhi, where he gained fame for his evocative verses that continue to inspire readers and poets alike. His works, including Diwan-e-Ghalib, Kulliyat, and Maktoobat, were initially written in Persian before he shifted towards Urdu.
Beyond poetry, Ghalib’s writings captured the socio-political upheaval of his time, as he witnessed the decline of the Mughal Empire. His reflections on changing times remain relevant to this day.
He passed away on February 15, 1869, in Delhi, but his literary legacy continues to shape Urdu poetry and thought.
