China Unveils CR450, the World’s Fastest Train

BEIJING (AIA) China has unveiled the CR450 EMU prototype, a groundbreaking high-speed train capable of reaching speeds of 400 kilometres per hour, making it the fastest in the world.

During a recent test run, the CR450 achieved a speed of 450 kilometres per hour, setting a new global standard in key performance areas such as operational speed, energy efficiency, interior noise levels, and braking distance, according to China State Railway Group Co. (China Railway).

The CR450 significantly outperforms the CR400 Fuxing trains currently in operation, which have a top speed of 350 kilometres per hour. The prototype boasts 22% less operational resistance and a 10% reduction in weight compared to its predecessor, enhancing efficiency and sustainability.

Officials emphasised that the CR450 reflects major advancements in China’s railway technology, reinforcing the nation’s global leadership in high-speed rail innovation and independence.

China currently operates the world’s longest high-speed rail network, spanning over 46,000 kilometres more than 70% of the global total. With the CR450’s introduction, China aims to elevate passenger travel experiences by providing faster, quieter, and more energy-efficient rail services.
