— February 18, 2025ISLAMABAD (AIA) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to boosting bilateral trade with Türkiye to $5 billion, calling the two nations brotherly allies with a shared vision for economic growth.
Addressing a cabinet meeting, the prime minister highlighted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent visit, noting that he has consistently supported Pakistan on global platforms.
“President Erdogan has been a strong voice for Palestine and Kashmir. Pakistan and Türkiye share deep-rooted ties and regularly consult and support each other on international fora,” Shehbaz said.
He added that several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during Erdogan’s visit and urged the Ministry of Commerce and other relevant departments to work together to achieve the $5 billion trade goal.
As a symbol of Pakistan’s affection for Türkiye, the government has named a newly completed flyover in Islamabad after President Erdogan. The project, completed in just 84 days, reflects the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
The prime minister also welcomed the latest Gallup survey, which showed that 55% of Pakistanis have confidence in the government’s pro-business policies. However, he stressed the need to continue working hard to advance the economic agenda, including the Uraan Pakistan initiative.
Speaking about his recent meeting with World Bank Executive Directors, Shehbaz said they had expressed unanimous satisfaction over Pakistan’s economic reforms and macroeconomic stability. He credited the entire cabinet for the progress.
The prime minister emphasised that peace and economic prosperity go hand in hand, urging the need for a stable environment to drive national progress. He also paid tribute to Pakistan’s security forces, recognising their sacrifices in ensuring the country’s safety.
