Punjab Government Launches Ambitious Forestation Campaign to Combat Smog Air Pollution

LAHORE (AIA) In a bid to tackle the perennial issue of smog and air pollution in Lahore, the Punjab government has embarked on an ambitious project to create a natural forest along the Ravi River. This initiative aims to transform Lahore into an oxygen hub, providing a sustainable solution to the city’s environmental woes.
According to Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, this project is a key mission of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, demonstrating the government’s commitment to environmental protection. The forestation campaign is expected to have a lasting impact on the city’s air quality, mitigating the effects of smog and pollution.
This move is part of a broader effort to address Lahore’s pollution crisis, which has seen the city ranked as one of the most polluted in the world.¹ The government has already implemented various measures, including artificial rain, crackdowns on polluters, and fuel regulations, to combat the issue. However, the forestation campaign is seen as a more permanent and sustainable solution.
