Karachi University, Medics Laboratories signs MoU to establish academia-industry linkage

KARACHI ( AIA ) The University of Karachi and one of the leading phytopharmaceutical companies Medics Laboratories (Pvt) Limited signed a memorandum of understanding to establish academic-industry linkage. As per the MoU, the management and administrative sciences and pharmacy and pharmaceutical faculties of the University of Karachi and Medics will collaborate to research herbal manufacturing products and natural sciences, said a statement on Monday.

Medics Laboratories, the Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences, and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences also agreed to initiate relevant postgraduate research projects (MPhil/PhD).According to the MoU, Medics will provide sponsorship of Rs1 million of which the KU Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences would get Rs 750,000 and the KU Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences would receive Rs 250,000 to hold joint seminars and research activities. Medics Laboratories will provide opportunities for the University of Karachi’s students for job positions related to herbal and pharmaceutical sciences. They will also arrange industrial visits, training, and internship opportunities for the students of the Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences and Faculty of Pharmacy Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr Mustafa Hyder from the Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences, Dr Farrukh Ahmed Siddiqui, Dr Sana from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Muhammad Ahmed Khan from the Medics Laboratory were appointed as the focal persons for the MoU.
The Karachi University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, and the Chief Executive Officer and the Director of Medics Laboratories Azeem Hussain inked the MoU documents at the VC Secretariat on Monday. The Karachi University Dean of the Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences Professor Dr Zaeema Asrar Mohiuddin, Karachi University Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor Dr Muhammad Harris Shoaib, in-charge KUBS Dr Sheikh Muhammad Fakre Alam, Dr Mustafa Hyder, chairpersons and faculty members of different department of pharmacy and pharmaceutical faculty, KU Director of Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization Dr Syeda Hoor-Ul-Ain and the team, and from Medics Azeem Hussain, Head of HR Taha Ahmed, Financial Controller Mustafa Ahmed Jamal, Tax Executive Muhammad Ahmed Khan, and others were also present on this occasion.
