
Islamabad to Revamp Public Libraries, Promote Culture of Reading
— January 25, 2025ISLAMABAD (AIA) The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has unveiled plans to upgrade public libraries across Islamabad, aiming to foster a learning-oriented environment for citizens.
CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa chaired a meeting on Friday, where senior officials discussed proposals to enhance the city’s public libraries. Randhawa emphasized the need for detailed plans to upgrade all libraries, including the CDA library.
The plans include establishing e-libraries in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), introducing international language courses, and installing books at metro bus stations and public locations.
To increase accessibility and appeal, libraries will integrate cafes and coffee shops, with revenue reinvested into maintenance and development.
Chairman Randhawa directed the rapid completion of ongoing renovation projects, envisioning Islamabad’s libraries as state-of-the-art learning hubs.
“This initiative will ensure vibrant and accessible spaces for residents to enhance their knowledge and learning,” Randhawa stated.
