
Pakistan, Bangladesh Seek Stronger Bilateral Ties in Trade, Education, and Culture
— March 15, 2025ISLAMABAD (AIA) Pakistan and Bangladesh on Saturday emphasised the need to enhance cooperation in trade, economy, culture, health, education, and people-to-people exchanges for mutual benefit.
The discussion took place during a meeting between President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, at Aiwan-e-Sadr, according to a statement from the President Secretariat Press Wing.
Both sides highlighted the importance of improving air and shipping links to boost bilateral trade and strengthen people-to-people ties.
President Gilani underscored the vast potential for collaboration in education, health, agriculture, and cultural exchange. He called for further efforts to enhance cultural and personal connections between the two nations.
He welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the supply of white rice from Pakistan to Bangladesh, noting that it would contribute to increased bilateral trade.
Gilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong ties with Bangladesh, rooted in common faith, shared history, and cultural similarities. He also recognised the contributions of Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh, for his groundbreaking work in microfinance and social development.
High Commissioner Khan highlighted opportunities for cooperation in health tourism and noted that Bangladeshi students are keen to pursue higher education in Pakistani universities.
President Gilani assured the high commissioner of Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties in all areas of mutual interest.
