Building a Nation of Lifesavers: Punjab Launches Province-Wide CPR Training Drive
— September 14, 2024LAHORE (AIA) Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary of the Emergency Services Department, celebrated World First Aid Day with rescue scouts and rescuers, emphasising the importance of community members in saving lives.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Lahore’s Command & Control Centre, Dr. Naseer highlighted the crucial role of rescue scouts in providing first aid before specialised services arrive, underscoring the potential to significantly improve emergency outcomes through community empowerment.
World First Aid Day was observed across Punjab, with a focus on bleeding control and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training, as per Dr. Naseer’s directives. From September 10 to 14, District Emergency Officers conducted week-long training sessions, aiming to train a record number of Rescue Scouts.
The event drew a wide range of participants, including rescue scouts, social activists, NGOs, and the general public. Dr. Naseer stressed the goal of having a trained lifesaver in every household, noting that the response time for services like Rescue 1122 is around 8 to 10 minutes. Since its inception, Rescue 1122 has provided critical services to 15.6 million victims across Pakistan. He urged the youth to join the life-saving mission by downloading the Pak Life Saver app for CPR training and certification.
Addressing college and university students, Dr. Naseer encouraged them to partner with Rescue 1122 as “lifesavers,” equipped with essential skills to respond in emergencies and disasters.
