KDA Targets Illegal Rafting Operators, Bans 69 Companies for 3 Years
— September 13, 2024KAGHAN (AIA) The Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) launched a major crackdown on illegal rafting operators in the region on Friday, banning 69 companies for three years due to non-compliance with government-approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Despite repeated warnings, these companies were found operating without proper licenses, raising serious safety concerns for tourists.
Under the directives of Shabbir Khan, Director General of KDA, the operation targeted unlicensed rafting companies in popular tourist destinations such as Naran and Damdama. The crackdown revealed that both the companies and their operators (captains) lacked the necessary licenses to conduct rafting activities.
The KDA emphasised that tourist safety remains a top priority, and stringent actions have been taken to mitigate potential risks associated with river rafting. The three-year ban on the 69 companies is a significant move toward regulating the tourism industry and enforcing safety standards across the valley.
