Pakistan Partners With China to Transform Chilli Farming Industry
— August 9, 2024BEIGING (AIA) Pakistani chilli farmers have partnered with Chinese enterprises to revolutionise the chilli industry under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Agricultural Cooperation Project. This collaboration has already yielded remarkable results, with 332 tonnes of dried chillies exported to China this year alone.
Through contract farming, Chinese companies are providing high-quality chilli seeds, advanced technology, and technical expertise to Pakistani farmers, helping them cultivate export-standard chillies. The buyback guarantee ensures a stable income for local farmers, safeguards their interests, and promotes the production of high-quality agricultural products.
This cooperation has not only enhanced the quality and yield of chillies but also empowered Pakistani farmers with modern agricultural techniques and machinery. With plans to establish precursor operations in Pakistan, the project aims to further reduce storage and transportation costs, encouraging the professional development of Pakistan’s chilli industry.
Since its inception in 2022, the project has made significant progress, with 30 plantations covering 16,000 acres, training over 1,500 agricultural technicians, and an increase in yield per acre by approximately 100,000 rupees. The success of this collaboration has encouraged more farmers to join the contract farming program, paving the way for a chilli farming revolution in Pakistan.
